San Diego’s newest museum is a modern, interactive space for children of all ages. The New Children’s Museum opened on October 18th, 2016 and has been packed with visitors ever since. It features the latest in STEM education as well as an exhibit called “The Power of Play: Why it Matters and How to do It.” This exhibit will show how play helps develop cognitive skills such as problem solving, creativity and empathy. There are also hands-on exhibits like a pretend grocery store where kids can practice math skills by counting change and shopping for groceries; a beachfront area with tide pools that teach about marine life; and even a planetarium that shows what we know about our solar system. These areas all have interactive workshops that teach kids about how they work in the real world too! There are also two outdoor play areas that include a climbing structure and tree house that allow children to explore nature year round. With its bright colors and beautiful architecture, the new San Diego Children’s Museum is one of my favorite places in Southern California!

The New Children’s Museum will be the first children’s museum to open in downtown San Diego since 1907. This is a huge undertaking and it will require a lot of support from people just like you! The building is still being renovated but they have been raising funds for this project for over five years now. They are looking forward to opening their doors on December 10th, 2018 so that families can enjoy fun learning experiences together again. It has been more than 100 years since there was a new children’s museum built in Downtown San Diego and they hope that the new facility will provide an opportunity for parents to spend time with their kids while also providing hands-on learning opportunities about science, art, history, math and other subjects.
